Privacy Policy

Prelude

Prelude is a web application and browser extension that helps users prepare and write replies to difficult messages. This Privacy Policy explains what data Prelude collects, how it is used, where it is processed, and what choices users have.

Prelude is available as a web app at useprelude.org and as a browser extension.

What we collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address and your password in hashed form only; we do not see or store your password in plain text.

When you use Prelude, we collect the text you paste into the web app, the text you type into the web app, the reply Prelude generates, metadata related to each generation such as selected mode, scenario, tone, length, and timestamp, and your remaining plan count.

When you use the browser extension, and only when you explicitly trigger an extension action, Prelude may process text you select on a webpage and send through the context menu action, or text visible on the currently active page when you choose “Read conversation from this page”.

This page content is processed only to generate the reply you requested. It is sent to Prelude’s backend and to Groq for AI processing. It is not saved in Supabase or stored as account history solely because it was read from a page by the extension. The extension does not read page content in the background and does not access page content unless you explicitly trigger the action.

When you buy plans, payments are processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number. We receive payment status information necessary to confirm a completed purchase tied to your account.

How we use data

We use the data described in this Privacy Policy only to provide the requested reply-generation feature, operate your account, track plan usage and enforce plan limits, confirm completed payments, maintain security and prevent abuse, and provide core product functionality.

We do not sell personal data. We do not use message content for advertising. We do not use the data described here for unrelated profiling.

Browser extension - what we do not collect

Prelude’s extension does not read your browsing history, track which websites you visit, read page content in the background, or access content from other tabs unless you explicitly trigger an action in the active tab.

Where your data is processed

Prelude uses Supabase for account data and stored generations, Groq for AI processing of submitted text, Stripe for payment processing, and Netlify for hosting and backend functions.

When you submit text for a generated reply, that text may be transmitted to Groq in order to generate the output. Extension-read page content that you explicitly submit for reply generation is processed for that request and is not stored in Supabase as account history solely because it came from page reading.

All traffic between your device, Prelude, and its service providers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS.

Who can access your data

Your data may be accessed by you, when viewing your account and saved generations; Prelude’s backend systems, only as necessary to operate the service; and service providers used to provide the product, including Supabase, Groq, Stripe, and Netlify, subject to their own terms and privacy practices.

We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.

Browser extension permissions

These permissions are used only to provide the feature you request. Prelude does not use them for background page monitoring or general browsing surveillance.

Data retention

Stored account data and saved generations remain associated with your account until they are deleted or until the account is deleted.

If you request account deletion, we will delete your account data and associated saved generations within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or payment recordkeeping.

Text read from a webpage through the extension and sent for reply generation is processed for that request and is not stored in Supabase solely because it was read from the page.

Your choices

Security

Prelude uses standard security measures designed to protect data in transit and data stored in connected systems. These measures include encrypted transport, hashed passwords, and access controls designed to restrict access to user data.

No internet-based system is completely secure. Users should avoid submitting information they would not want stored in a cloud-based service.

Children

Prelude is not intended for children under 16. Do not use Prelude or create an account if you are under 16.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of Prelude after those changes means you accept the updated Privacy Policy.
